Historic Hardin County Courthouse to Be Reimagined as Boutique Hotel and Event Destination
ELIZABETHTOWN, KY — A landmark in the heart of downtown Elizabethtown is set to begin a new chapter. The historic Hardin County Courthouse at 100 Public Square will be thoughtfully redeveloped into a boutique hotel and event destination, bringing new life to one of the city’s most recognizable and cherished buildings.
The project will transform the 1930s-era courthouse into an intimate hotel featuring 24 guest rooms and suites, along with dedicated event and gathering space designed to host weddings, meetings, and community events.
Originally constructed in 1933–34 in the Georgian Revival style, the Hardin County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing resource to the Elizabethtown Courthouse Square and Commercial District. The adaptive reuse project will preserve and restore many of the building’s most significant architectural elements, including terrazzo floors, marble wainscoting, historic wood doors and trim, stained glass, plaster detailing, and the iconic third-floor courtroom volume.
Weyland Ventures is developing the project in partnership with Elizabethtown Renaissance Associates, a local investment group formed specifically to support the revitalization of this important civic landmark. Partners in Elizabethtown Renaissance Associates include Ben LaRue, Kevin Addington, and Carl Swope, whose involvement reinforces a strong commitment to preserving Elizabethtown’s history while fostering sustainable downtown growth.
Financing for the project reflects a collaborative investment in both historic preservation and downtown revitalization. West Point Bank is providing the construction and term loan, while The Cecilian Bank is serving as the historic tax credit investor. Bosse Construction has been selected as the project’s general contractor.
Once complete, the hotel is expected to serve both visitors and locals, offering a distinctive place to stay while reinforcing downtown Elizabethtown as a hub for culture, events, and heritage tourism. Exterior improvements will include historically appropriate restoration, enhanced landscaping, and a redesigned drop-off area to improve pedestrian and guest access while respecting the courthouse square’s historic character.
The Courthouse Hotel project is targeted to open early 2027.
